Job Description Job Summary:
ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company is seeking qualified and experienced candidates for stimulation and well construction research and technology development. Job duties include research in stimulation technologies, hydraulic fracturing technologies, and well completion/construction technologies as applied to coal-bed methane, shale gas, and tight gas resources. This individual will also serve as an internal consultant to ExxonMobil Upstream affiliates and will be based in Houston with some domestic and international travel.
Primary Job Functions:
* Use a combination of approaches involving numerical modeling, laboratory experimentation, and field testing to identify and develop novel fracturing and stimulation technologies to optimize recovery in coal-bed methane reservoirs, tight sandstone reservoirs, and shale gas reservoirs
* Work within cross-disciplinary teams to develop, validate, test, and deploy the technologies in field applications
* Develop, deploy, and apply advanced models, proprietary analytical models and computational software to optimize stimulation, completion, and production performance
* Design and steward lab experiments to calibrate and validate models
* Conduct training for use and application of the stimulation models
* Provide training in stimulation technology and application to ExxonMobil affiliates
* Provide global support to ExxonMobil affiliates for stimulation treatment design and execution
* Provide consultation to field and operations personnel on technology application
* Support planning, stewardship, and oversight of internal and joint industry research programs
* Provide support and representation for ExxonMobil interest in joint ventures
* Effectively work with contractors, vendors, and operators
Job Requirements:
* Requires a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Petroleum Engineering, Geomechanics, or a related field
* Requires a working knowledge of and practical work experience in development and application of stimulation technologies and well construction technologies to Coal Bed Methane resources as well as tight gas and shale gas resources
* Requires working knowledge of and experience with commercial hydraulic fracture design software (e.g., MFrac) and single well performance prediction modeling with commercial simulators to aid optimization of stimulation treatments
* Requirements further include working knowledge of laboratory experimental design and measurement techniques, and completion and hydraulic fracturing operations
* Requires a working knowledge of coupled rock mechanics, fluid mechanics, and reservoir performance as applied to stimulation of coal bed methane and unconventional gas resources
* Relevant industry research and technology development experience
* Strong technical, analytical, and applied research skills
* Demonstrated, strong communication, interpersonal, and personal leadership skills.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new technology in field operations
* Ability to travel both domestically and internationally and to provide consulting in field work environment
